All members of the Src gene family of tyrosine kinases are characterized by a carboxy terminal domain tyrosine which is highly phosphorylated in the inactive form of the enzyme and phosphorylated to a much lesser extent when the enzyme is active

This particular gene maps to chromosome X in a head-to-head orientation with SPANX family member A2| which appears to be a duplication of the A1 locus

and other long chain fatty acids
