Tyres trash partly collapsedA pile of tyres left on the floor of the main engine house at Elrington Colliery, the building that originally housed the winding machinery for the mine's two concrete lined shafts. Coal production ran from 1930 until December 1962, when BHP closed the colliery citing persistent operating losses. BHP then opened an engineering works on the same site in June 1964.
